I've used netdrive, but it's twitchy. It really doesn't like when a link to the server is transitory and I ended up pulling it off of all of my machines.

Also, technically, the license for netdrive doesn't allow for those of us not owners of the bigger Novell license to use. Many universities have the link up, making it defacto free, but it's technically not licensed for the rest of us to use.

I have an even simpler solution. Novell produces a freely availible utility called netdrive (downloadable from http://www.loyola.edu/5555/netdrive/applications/netdrive.exe) which allows you to map an ftp folder to a drive letter. Netdrive then handles the synch for you. Then when you want to move to another computer you can either just download netdrive again or just download and re-upload.

In a pure Windows enviroment, you can archieve it much easier with cached update. It means you leave your wiki file on the server (shared directory), allow a off-line content editing (right mouse click) and Windows will produce a duplicate on your desktop pc. Everytime you edit your wiki, Windows automaticaly manages the synchronisation between the desktop copy and the server copy. You must do nothing. You can control the way Windows synchronizes off-line contents, too. For the off-site situation, when you are out of office, you can still do a FTP section to download your wiki.

Obviously (or maybe not so) the .ahk can do whatever else you'd like it to. There's no reason it has to be FTP. It could run pretty much anything you want. Commandline programs work just like for this one and Autohotkey can also script Windows programs. You could use:

* SVN, CVS or other source code control
* Encrypt and decrypt the file storage
* Compact and uncompact the file storage
etc.

<!--%kramer-pre%-->'blog that has recently stood out for a couple of very useful looking tips is that belonging to J Wynia (the LetterJ of the title of this post). There's a lot of good stuff there, but two tips which particularly stand out for me are: FTP AutoSync for WikidPad which pointed me to the extremely useful looking (and free!) AutoHotKey Instruction pamphlet overload we’re everywhere….. which definitely strikes a chord If this is at all interesting to you, you may also want to check out my<!--%kramer-post-->
