Using Twitter a Bit

Just a quick note to say that I'm using Twitter a bit again. Garrick nudged me and I gave it another shot. I certainly haven't drunk the Kool-Aid or anything. However, it does tap into something for me. I've always been bugged by instant messaging. I hate being interrupted or put on someone else's timetable. Instant messaging, like the phone is interrupt driven and just irritates me.

However, email is asynchronous. RSS is asynchronous (I'm usually running about 3-5 days behind when people post on their site). The web is asynchronous. And, despite Twitter appearing to be just as twitchy as IM, it's not. It introduces just a little bit of asynchronicity: just enough. I can still keep up to date on what other people are doing, but don't have to do it exactly when they post.

I don't know how long I'll last before it starts bugging me, but for now it's not getting in the way at all.

For better or worse, I'm the guy who runs things here. I'm a web consultant, software developer, writer and geek from Minneapolis, MN. This site is a fairly wide cross-section of the things I'm interested in and enjoy writing about.

Oh, and if you happen to be looking for hosting for your Subversion repositories or just web hosting in general, take a look at Dreamhost. It's what I use for Subversion and your signup helps me out.
