Cult Classic DVDs Replaced

Shaun of the Dead
When I was out of town a few weeks ago, I brought a binder with my software (VMWare images for various things, rescue discs, etc.) as well as a few of my favorite movies along. Unfortunately, I left the binder in the hotel and it's long gone. The software wasn't a huge deal as most of it was also on my file server, but the movies were a couple of cult classics that I love to watch.

I make a distinction between movies that are "good" and those that I enjoy watching repeatedly. While there has to be *some* overlap, there doesn't have to be much. Think about a movie like Schindler's List, which is generally regarded as a well made and "good" movie. It's also not the kind of movie that I'd watch very often given its content.

Contrast that with a movie like Goonies, which isn't going to win awards for writing, directing, etc. However, it's a fun movie that lots of people my age wore out the tape of on the old VCR.

Well, when these movies disappeared, I was angry, but since I was the one to lose them, I had no one to blame but myself. So, I just hit Amazon and ordered used copies. The last of them came yesterday and my collection is back to complete.

The 3 movies in question?

  • Shaun of the Dead - Best zombie romantic comedy ever.
  • Bubba Ho Tep - Elvis and a black JFK fighting a 4000 year old mummy in a nursing home. What's not to like.
  • Strange Brew - Don't like this one, eh? Well, take off, you hoser.
