Surface on NBC Cancelled, Earl Returns
My posting on the season finale of the NBC series Surface has been the most popular on this site for 2 solid months. However, that level of interest in a second season doesn't appear to be enough for NBC, because it looks like the show has been cancelled.
Like I said in my earlier post, the writers clearly understood that they might only get the one season and wrote it so that at least there feels like some closure on the storyline. Shows that get axed midseason or otherwise cut much shorter than the writers plan for end up having a terrible arc, even on DVD later. And, I will be buying the Surface DVD's when they come out.
When is the long tail for professionally produced video programming going to kick in? When can I subscribe to a show like Surface and keep it going despite the lowest common denominator taste of America at large? Shows like Surface will *never* be the most popular thing on TV, but the people who love this kind of thing are loyal and enjoy it 10x more than the average person likes the most popular thing out there.
On a lighter note, I'm glad to see that My Name is Earl is coming back. I don't think the ratings are great for it, but it's one of the best comedies out there right now. It gets extra bonus points for not having a laugh track.

that sucks
May 18th, 2006 at 3:13 pm
what is wrong with these tv shows - it was really great and then they cancelled it - abc did that once too - had a great show based on a true story about a woman with a large family who was a vet at a zoo in florida and after about 14 programs it got cancelled - i had taped it all and still have it - i did tape surface - at least we can write scifi channel and see if there is any hope they might make at least an ending movie
May 18th, 2006 at 3:56 pm
You can't take away surface, its my favorite show.
May 20th, 2006 at 5:11 am
i have earl bring back surface now
May 20th, 2006 at 5:12 am
sorry missed spelled hate that is i hate earl
May 20th, 2006 at 9:38 am
I am another very disappointed Sci-Fi fan. Really enjoyed Invasion and Surface - both now gone. You mention that there was some closure in the last episode. I must be dense because I didn't see it. There were so many interesting storylines beginning to surface (no pun intended)that we won't resolve. Any chance that the Pate brothers could reveal their long term plans for the series or even better yet there could be a novel or comic book miniseries to bring resolution? Thanks for any news.

I know this cycle of renewal/cancelling is as old as TV itself, and often striking at Shows that are "Scifi" or "alternative" and not the mainstream, but whay strikes me as I enter my 40th year is that instead of TV aging with me, TV execs believe somehow that TV for my generation, you know, Game Shows, Soaps is what I want. Instead of pushing the envelope of my imagination, by 40, I'm not supposed to have one, I supposed to be watch 40something + TV.
So is tv going to continue to disappoint me and continue to throw a few bucks at Scifi for the Under 20's and then cancel again and again.
Don't the execs think, how much time as a 40 year old I'm investing in watch these short lived series and how much Im disappointed that they can't sit it out and finish the job.
At 40 I feel cheated by the whole experience and this year 3 great TV series starts have met the chop for really stupid and pathetic excuses for ratings. Threshold,Surface and Invasion may not be 40something TV by they were my 40something TV and Im really starting to loose the faith of why I should bother to even start to watch. I really should just get the videos and books out and stuff the networks they can was my time no longer
May 21st, 2006 at 7:28 am
Why not "CANCEL" all of the "STUPID" reality shows. How much mind numbing TV can any person take. Just to see how grossssss someone can be. I can call up my brother and dare him to do most of that stuff…. We need something to stimulate out imagination… I really do hope that sci-fi channel picks this up or at least do a mini series to finalize the story… I was really wanting to see how the boy was going to change.. And how the world was going to handle all the changes…. And how were they going to get out of the church…. These are questions that need answers…..
May 22nd, 2006 at 11:49 am
I am heart-broken. No Surface or Invasion. What will life be like now. Larkin is shot and Tom put her in the water. No conclusion. That was it. So Russell has no chance to do anything about it? That was it? I give up on television. What am I going to watch now other than Lost. Oh, it is going to be a long summer……
May 22nd, 2006 at 1:02 pm
I cannot believe that Invasion is cancelled. I loved both Surface & Invasion. Something finally different on TV. I am in the 20something crowd and I loved both shows, gave you excitment and made you think. I cannot stand the reality shows and know that this summer TV will be full of that crap tv. I am seriously upset that they just left off with Surface & Invasion like that. I trully hope that sci-fi or another channel will pick up off where they left off.
May 23rd, 2006 at 11:59 am
Ewe!! Surface is cancelled!? What gives!?
Man, and I wanted to see Nimmy grow up and thrash some of the other beasties… I'll keep my fingers crossed that some execs pull their heads out of their a$$es and that this series returns somehow, someway.
May 23rd, 2006 at 1:11 pm
I agree with the others; I hope the Sci Fi channel will pick this program up. Why should I watch tv if all my favorites get cancelled? Everything comes down to the almighty ratings. This country has more idiots that watch reality shows and sit-coms that doesn't take any brains or imagination. I'm just very sad and angry.
May 23rd, 2006 at 3:50 pm
it not only reflects ratings which i think were high on both surface and invasions but who sponsored these shows - i cant remember - so many car ads these days but if you can find out who the main sponsor was perhaps we all can email them as they are the ones who pick up the tab for shows and if they dont think there is a large viewing audience they wont sponsor it
May 23rd, 2006 at 3:58 pm
I guess I am another person to add to the list of Surface and Invasion fans that are p____d off at their cancellation. Ditto on the reality show comments by Billie above. And do we really need 3 versions of "Law and Order" and 3 versions of "CSI"? And how does Ghost Whisperer get renewed (I tried to watch it because of JLH, but could not even make it through one episode…even her hotness cannot redeem that show)? SciFi, please pickup these shows and stop creating those lame D grade movies like Mammoth and Frankenfish (there is a reason why some actors are no longer popular). At least I still have Earl.
May 23rd, 2006 at 3:59 pm
another reply - i am almost 70 and have loved dinosaurs all my life - if i could go back and go to school again i probably would be one of those guys that dig up bones - anyway i loved surface because i have always believed there are things undiscovered in the ocean and deep lakes and that there really is a nessie and something in lake champain which will be brought to light someday so science can say oh we knew it was there just had to prove it to us - anyway that is why i liked surface - it was like the sea serpents had been found and the story line was great and since it was on at 8 pm here in california i am sure a lot of kids got hooked too - only they can't answer polls because they are not old enough - well what about all the stupid saturday morning cartoons geared for kids - why not a spin off on surface - and another one on invasion - was glad when sci fi picked up stargate - it was a good movie but of course now richard dean anderson has left the show per his own wishes so friends who watched because of him are disappointed - i do not watch any of the so-called comedies on any network because they are so into sex and tv thinks people like dirty tv - and i dont watch sports except horse racing - i wonder how the public would feel if home makeover got cancelled - there would be a loud cry - that is the only reality tv show i watch - well since now everything will be reruns and two favorite shows got cancelled guess i will be reading more and online more - wonder how the tv sponsors will feel about that
May 23rd, 2006 at 7:19 pm
I really do hope that enough execs realize the fanbase that Surface has generated.
There are far and few sci-fi shows on the air right now that literally grab your attention. Surface was infact a truely brilliant show.
It was very well written the Pates brothers and I do hope enough people voice their opinion so that another network continues to pick up the series where it left off.
I guess only time will tell.
May 23rd, 2006 at 8:16 pm
Que cagada loco, acabo de terminar de ver el capitulo 15 de surface y me vengo a enterar que lo cancelaron.
La Puta Madre que los pario a la NBC porque no cancelan otras bostas en vez de cancelar este show que me gustaba tanto!
May 26th, 2006 at 1:47 am
May 28th, 2006 at 7:14 am
I think cancelling Surface is the biggest mistake NBC could have made. I already don't watch the network, (I can't stand that show Vegas), and now I have no reason to go back to NBC. I hope surface gets picked up by Sci Fi or someone. My wife and I love that show.
Oh well life must go on. I also hate ABC cancelled Commander In Chief. Networks suck more than major record companies.
May 28th, 2006 at 7:17 am
WTF?!?!?!!? INVASION TOO? OH HELL NAW. THESE ASSHOLES NEED TO BE SHOT..PERIOD..
May 28th, 2006 at 11:18 pm
surface… cancelled… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! FRAK! now it's just me and battlestar galactica… surface… WHY!!!!???!?!?!?!
May 29th, 2006 at 11:17 pm
Hi,
I think that the excutives of NBC should stop taking their LSD and put their feets on the ground. Only a derrange person would cancel a show like surface.
All my friends watch it and it gave us the same feeling as when we were kids and had just seen a Star Wars or Star Trek movie.
What happens is that during all the time TV has been on. SciFi's have been the black sheep and have paid the price for been diferent and expand our horizons. (I can't see how Earl could help me with that)
I personaly hope Scifi will pickup Surface and do a good job as it has done with Stargate SG-1. Ok, maybe not 10 seasons, but at least a solid 2 and 3 with a real conclusion to the story. Meanwhile keep watching the Stargate's (atlantis too) and Galactica.
May 30th, 2006 at 8:52 am
when are these people going to realise you cannot bring out good shows like invasion and surface then cancel them. they need their heads examining, who needs reality tv shows anyway. or lots of game shows. or infinate versions of police shows. they bring out good scifi shows then descide to cancel them. as i said they should have their heads examined
May 31st, 2006 at 1:39 pm
Add me to the list of disappointed Surface fans. As a 40 something professional, I am right in the demographic. I also hope that Sci Fi picks up the show. I am encouraged that they are already replaying the first season. And yes, it would lift that network quite a bit since their made-for-Sci-Fi movies are so bad (most mini-series excepted). I too hate "reality" shows, the copy cat forensics shows and the moronic sit coms. The only network show I am watching right now is Numbers, a show which also requires some intelligence to appreciate.
At least there is still Battlestar Galactica, probably the finest Sci Fi series since Babylon 5.
May 31st, 2006 at 5:11 pm
I LOVE THE SHOW SURFACE IT WAS THE BEST SHOW ON TV
June 3rd, 2006 at 4:46 pm
why cacel f***ing shows that i get into? remember the vampire tv show(forgot the name, during the 90's), it was great. hope sci-fi picks up these shows.

June 4th, 2006 at 8:24 pm
This is why I don't watch NBC, ABC, CBS……they shove so called reality shows down peopls throats, finally get a great show like surface/invasion, and cancel it after 1 season.
Just plain dumb and stupid…..
WB did the same thing with ANGEL after the 5th season was their biggest one in terms of ratings, they cancel it. Just plain stupid.
June 7th, 2006 at 7:26 pm
It's not fair to cancel Surface!! They cancelled Veritas after 1 season, just when it got interesting. (Anyone remember that one?) Just show me the re-runs then! Now they put on reality dancing, eating crud, bad singers, bad chefs, bad houseguests, bad kids…… Nothing good there!! I guess I won't watch that channel anymore then!
June 7th, 2006 at 11:24 pm
found out you can write to tv guide and maybe they will post your letter about cancellation of surface = its just letters@tvguide.com
June 13th, 2006 at 12:20 pm
This was a show my whole family enjoyed!!!! i have been waiting all school year for it to come back!!! well I geuss the network needed to make room for more skin/killing and drugs!!! i am so pissed over this! I as the other will only hope a movie/dvd or sci fi will pick this up or give us some sort of closure…because the last episode was no closure they were left on the top of a church!!! did they all live? what happens to nim?
June 13th, 2006 at 12:43 pm
i wrote to tv guide at letters@tvguide so maybe everyone on here can do the same and write to nbc at surface@nbcuni.com if website is still up i belonged to a group called surface-on-nbc@yahoogroups.com but it may close too - just keep complaing to nbc or abc about shows being cancelled - guess the studios and networks dont care about the viewing public - and i am sick of reality shows except on animal planet!!
June 13th, 2006 at 12:45 pm
who is paying for the 4400 as its back - i taped the first year but then missed the second year so probably wont watch this year
June 20th, 2006 at 3:49 pm
In this era of 400 channels and niche programming, why can't we keep a show like Surface on the air? Networks no longer need to keep shows only if they appeal to 30 million viewers each week. If a show has a small but dedicated audience it should remain on the air with a revenue model created around it to sustain it.
My wife and I rarely watch network programs anymore but we had a season pass on the Tivo for Surface and watched every episode.
Viewership has changed and the metrics of determining a show's success need to change with the times. In the race to appeal to the widest audience, network television has left me behind. I have absolutely no interest in "reality" tv nor most of the other shows the networks put out. A show like Surface had the characters and the quirks to set it apart and get me to invest my time in it.
I probably still fit the "target demographic" of the networks (college-educated, mid-30's, disposable income, etc.) but they're determined to not keep up with my viewing tastes. Praises be to Tivo and hundreds of channels to choose from to keep me happy. I'll leave network tv to the mindless masses yearning to be cattle.
June 20th, 2006 at 8:21 pm
This totally sucks. I loved surface and am extremely ticked off at NBC. Surface was awesome and as for Earl, I could care less. I have been waiting and searching on net to find out when Surface was returning and to find this out. I'm mad. Why do they keep doing this to us? I wish surface could come back even without NBC. I would love for us to be heard.
June 21st, 2006 at 8:29 am
What the hell that was a good show why cancle that. Oh it must be because I hate earl is such a great show NOT. NBC sucks they need to get better tv instead of all that reality crap thats about as real as The real world
June 21st, 2006 at 11:26 am
WOW! I was wondering what happened to SURFACE. They definitely should NOT have cancelled it. I was on the edge of my seat every episode, wondering what was going to happen NEXT. TV needs shows like SURFACE…it's strikes the imagination, and lets people see things that wouldn't ever happen! With all the Reality JUNK out there on EVERY CHANNEL, you would think a show like SURFACE would be welcomed into the picture. You can turn on any channel and see REALITY this, REALITY that. NEWS FLASH…we live in reality! WHO CARES about how other people are living and hooking up with each other and/or what they are willing to do in order to win a measly Five Grand (or whatever it is)! SURFACE should definitely be on the SCI-FCI channel. I am a fan of the show.
June 22nd, 2006 at 3:33 pm
That is REALLY dumb move on NBC's Part. Don't get me wrong, I love NBC's line-up, but without SURFACE, it just isn't the same. I watched it every Monday with my 5 yr-old son, and he loved it and so did I. He stil asks me every Monday "Is SURFACE coming on?" I have to tell him "No." I know a 5 yr-olds mind is not fully developed, and he will find other things to watch, but Me and my family LOVED watching SURFACE.
June 22nd, 2006 at 4:46 pm
what is it with all these stupid comedies with dumb men and over sexed women is that what america really wants to watch on tv - of course in the fall we will have football again - i loved surface because there was something on monday nites besides football - for the children who loved it - guess parents need to buy the dvds - i am sure everyone on here is protesting to nbc website but they already have their minds made up and i read the reason invasion was droppd and no one picked up it was expensive to film - give me a break sure surface was expensive too as they had to creature the creatures and underwater scenes on a computer - my word to both these networks dont start a great new series if you cant afford to finish it
June 22nd, 2006 at 4:57 pm
website where you all can petition the heck out of nbc for surface is petition-them.com and you can sign petition to bring back surface = have all your friends, family and email buddies too sign petition
June 25th, 2006 at 12:43 am
just wonder if there is anyway we could send this website to nbc so they can see how may people are protesting the cancellation of surface plus i have been on a couple of other websites posting that support surface also - is anyone out there who produces shows listening and what happened to the writers and actors on surface -
June 27th, 2006 at 9:04 pm
I like Surface a lot but SciFi and USA networks are part of NBC!! So they will pick up Surface!
June 29th, 2006 at 7:02 pm
I'm not of a tv-watching person…up until last fall i hadn't really watched much tv in the last 5 years, but one night i just so happened to turn the tv on and saw SURFACE on….i thought it was just some boring show, but it actually struck my interest and i tried to watch it as often as i could. It was a welcomed relief from the deluge of reality shows that the networks think that people will actually watch. How many reality shows can one person watch in one night? I mean, there seems to be a reality show for just about anything you can think of…everything from two rich bimbos trying to get a real job to bad chefs and everyday people making asses of themselves on national tv. It's a shame that the networks feel that they should cancel a show because it's not a reality show. I guess the execs at the networks are as stupid as the people who think that the idea of reality shows is a good one.
July 11th, 2006 at 6:45 am
I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone in their right mind would ever want to watch a bald howie mandel (and some obnoxious idiot) open cases instead of watch surface. i wish nimrod would be real… maybe then, nbc would bring back surface……. the reality show.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:18 am
I am still in utter disbelief. I am hoping to wake up one day and it will be back on and this would have been a horrible dream. I guess I can only hope.
July 11th, 2006 at 8:25 am
THATS JUST TERRIBLE..THE WORST NEWS I'VE READ ALL YEAR…I HATE REALITY TV..ITS SO MINDLESS…BRING BACK REAL ACTORS AND ACTRESSES…BRING BACK SHOWS WITH ACTUAL STORYLINES!!! SCI-FI PLEASE PICK UP THIS SHOW!!!!!!
July 11th, 2006 at 8:46 am
I agree that the sci fi channel should pick this show up. and if you go to the sci fi channel site (scifi.com/surface) it has a schedule of when they will play the episodes of surface that were already aired.
July 11th, 2006 at 10:43 am
PLZ … SCI FI …. pick up surface. My wife and i love that show. BRING IT BACK!!!
(jedi mind trick)>> Start filming Season 2 of Surface…
July 11th, 2006 at 1:05 pm
i hope they make a season 2, or i will die
July 11th, 2006 at 8:23 pm
i watched the reruns of surface on sci fi today but they did not mention at the end that they would be picking up the second season - someone said they saw miles on the 4400 - was that filmed before or after surface
July 11th, 2006 at 8:53 pm
been reading other comments and hoping and whatever is not going to bring it back - if you really want the show back you all are going to have to write to nbc and sci fi channel and complain you want the show back - if they get enough email, snail mail whatever - maybe they will see that there is a large population of fans out there for this show - its time to yell at the studios and make yourself heard
July 14th, 2006 at 11:29 am
nbc sucks and dissapoints me I will never watch nbc again
July 14th, 2006 at 5:13 pm
see a lot of people complaining on here well thats not going to bring back the show you have to do your complaining to the studio and the executives who have the power to cut a show - too bad this website cannot be submitted in its entirety to nbc
also emailed some other people who had surface websites and they did not know that sci fi channel is part of the nbc family
July 14th, 2006 at 5:19 pm
i am going to write to bonnie hammer at sci fi and mention this website for her to read the email sent to it - maybe she will get a clue to bring surface back and maybe invasion too - it would certainly add more viewers to her channel
July 17th, 2006 at 1:54 pm
I have been a loyal viewer of NBC since I was a kid. However, now that they've cancelled Conviction and Surface, I will probably stop watching NBC.
I'm tired of them cancelling good shows, it's just plain stupid, it makes me angry.
Their network is dying because they keep cancelling new shows. People know this, so when NBC launches a new show they intentionally ignore it (who wants to invest time and interest in a show that will be cancelled). This is probably why people watch so much reality TV, if a reality show is cancelled, no one cares.
July 18th, 2006 at 5:27 pm
Here is the contact information to voice your opinion about future seasons of Surface.
The Sci-Fi Channel(We are asking them to pick up Surface for future seasons because they are airing Surface Season One, it's a Sci-Fi type of show that would fit nicely on their channel, and they have picked up other Sci-Fi shows in the past.)

You can't cancel Surface that show was awesome, everyone is waiting too see what happens as the last episode was to be continues, BRing it back!!!!
July 21st, 2006 at 10:52 pm
I took some advice and sent an email to SCIFI. I let them know we want Surface back. Everyone email SciFi and let them know we want it back. It was really getting VERY interesting. Like was mentioned, every time a good show comes on it runs a short time then is cancelled. IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2006 at 1:17 am
i have been emailing all the websites to save surface and i have not gotten back any emails in reply - can someone higher up email nbc execs to see what is happening or sci fi channel - i even emailed animal planet at least got a reply back that they have someone that considers what kind of shows would be shown - i did email sci fi pres but did not get reply - that is why someone told me that mail via post ofice works better as they can see a physical piece of mail - its easy for office worker just to delete email - if thousands of letters showed up at nbc door in burbank now that might make impression
July 22nd, 2006 at 8:43 am
I too think that a mailed letter has more of an impact than an email if nothing else, because a letter takes a bit more effort. But Kevin Reilly(NBC Pres) did make a comment in an interview about all of the email he received about Surface being cancelled. Email, write, buy the DVD and download Surface from YouTube.
July 22nd, 2006 at 8:45 am
My husband and myself cannot believe it was canceled either. It was a very good show. I plan on writing to the execs at SCi-Fi channel too. It can't hurt.
July 24th, 2006 at 5:50 am
Why should I bother to watch anymore TV at all?!! Everytime I get into a show or series, they cancel it. I'm sick of it!!!!!!!!!
July 24th, 2006 at 10:25 am
Well I will definatley be dropping all local channels (ABC, NBC, Etc) From my DSS plan. Why pay the extra $6.00 a month. You have a show that you can watch with your whole fam, and I know it had a huge following. Everyone around me enjoyed the show. We would talk about it @ work!!! My family is very disapointed with NBC and I will be dropping them from my DSS Plan.
July 25th, 2006 at 8:31 pm
I CANT BELIVE THAT IT WAS CANCELLED,IT WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST SHOW ON EARTH.BEFORE THE SHOW WAS CANCELLED I COULDINT WATE TILL THE SHOW CAME ON FOR A SECOND SEASON. WITH THE GREAT SEASON FINALE!I WISH NBC WOULD CHANGE THERE MIND.
SURFACE WAS SUCH A GOOD SHOW, I'LL NEVER FOR GET IT.
July 25th, 2006 at 9:42 pm
well i went to abc7.com and emailed george pennaccho who does the entertainment on los angeles channel 7 and told him to look into it - wonder if he will even get email - anyway i suggested they have a reality show on why good programs get cancelled!!!
August 5th, 2006 at 6:15 pm
my husband and i were very dissapointed that invasion and surface were canceled. that was good tv. now there is not much left to watch.
what a mistake. now theres no reason to watch nbc, especially not for earl
August 5th, 2006 at 11:14 pm
all the comments i read on here by viewers shd be sent to the appropriate networks including sci fi - what will nbc do on aug 15t if surface sells out - my daughter said she would pick me up a copy at costco may be cheaper there - and invasion comes out on 8/22 on dvd and it sells out - they will be hard put to deny a second season for either show - boy will there be mud on their faces
August 7th, 2006 at 1:31 pm
I am done with NBC, ABC…etc…Those shows were great and then they go and cencel and leave everyone hanging. I am sick of it too. I am dropping the Networks and will just wait until series I am interested in come out on DVD and I can rent them when I know they have a thought threw conclusion. The only other show I will watch confidently is 24 because you know each season has been thought through and brought to a conclusion. They should stop putting stuff on TV if they have not clue where they are going with it and how it will end. To me that is like publishing half a book without an ending and I wouldn't waste my time reading it if I knew that either. Same for watching programming.
August 8th, 2006 at 7:23 pm
I am i sick i tired of the getting rid of the best shows. They cancel all of the good shows and leave all the Crappy show on air. They have NO right to cancel Surface it was the best show. It was even Ashley Tisdale's favorite show! I really want to see a second season on air this year!!!!
August 8th, 2006 at 10:34 pm
sorry but is ashley tisdale and does she have any clout in hollywood - read on a website that kevin reilly, head of nbc entertainment made a joke about surface - that only two viewers watched the last show - boy i want to write to him - like to meet him in person somewhere and really yell at him - what a JERK!!!!!
i emailed sci fi last nite as no mention yet on their website what time they are reruning surface on the 15th so keep cking their website
August 9th, 2006 at 1:20 pm
My wife and I looked forward to seeing Surface each week. We were not happy that it would not be back but I can relate to how it happens. There have been several shows that we have planned evenings around to have them be cancelled. I work in retail and notice there is a disconnect between customers and the head of companies. They have different goals, the customer's want/need of product vs. corporates "how much money can we make" view.
What really floors me is how so many,in my opinion, crappy shows stay on. For instance, The Office has won awards but is one of the least funny shows I have ever seen. That show stinks. I had hoped for something like the movie Office Space but no such luck. I'll also bend Sci-Fi's ear about making money on NBC's ignorance.
August 9th, 2006 at 3:23 pm
I've been waiting for Surface to re-Surface. I won't slam any crappy other shows on the air, however, Surface started out slowly but great character development and a quick story line has left me waiting for more. I want more.
August 9th, 2006 at 4:29 pm
I sent Kevin Reilly a link to this site and I will do the same for Bonnie Hammer. I really think it could help if people sent their comments by snail mail too(email is a good second choice).
August 12th, 2006 at 2:42 pm
Surface rocks!
It is a compelling, action, thoughtful drama that helps people to dream…
A moral crime to cancel it.
Sci-Fi Channel - come be a Knight in Shining Armor!
August 13th, 2006 at 11:08 pm
i think i figured it out tonite - we have been emailing the wrong network or tv station - watched a movie on tnt and they run drama that is in their name - anyway, they run shows from cbs, nbc, etc plus they produce their own series - so i am going to email them about surface and invasion - maybe they would pick them up - so try writing to tnt - dont know who owns it
August 13th, 2006 at 11:17 pm
tnt is owned by ted turner so address is just tnt@turner.com if you want to email it. i wrote about both shows surface and invasion
August 14th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
It won't hurt to email TNT, it never hurts to ask, but please write/email NBC and Sci-Fi too. Surface was pretty pricey to make, I don't know if TNT would pick up such an expensive show. TOMORROW IS DVD DAY! Email NBC and Sci-Fi to celebrate the DVD release of Surface!
August 15th, 2006 at 5:20 am
surface sucked, its that simple, the acting was awful, and the plot was insulting, giant sea monsters plus a kid whos mutating bcause he got bit by his pet monster ..come on there might not be alot of good shows on any network right no…but atleast NBC had enough sense to get rid of that lameass show….if you want a good story line and interesting charcters….read a book.stop looking to the idiot box to entertain you.
August 15th, 2006 at 6:43 am
First, "tweakxz" came to this site after searching for "surface season 2" in Google. Hardly someone to be sitting in a position of judgement.
I'd be willing to bet that the average Surface viewer is far from illiterate and no doubt maintains a reading list dwarfing that of someone who clearly needs some help in learning the basic rules of punctuation, capitalization, spelling and grammar.
If you want people to take your criticisms of their entertainment choices, particularly when your argument is the cerebral decline that comes from viewing television, you should put down the keyboard and go take a class in rhetorical structure and basic English composition. If you want to step out of the kiddie pool and argue with the adults, you had better come to the argument equipped with more than incoherent rambling joined by ellipses.
Stop looking to incompetent trolling on websites for your entertainment.
August 15th, 2006 at 11:10 am
Right on. We all enjoyed the show and let us do our thing and you go and talk to all the other reality show lovers. We do not need all of that negativity.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:23 pm
MY FAMILY AND I ARE ANOTHER GROUP OF PEOPLE DISAPPOINTED IN NBC. EVERY MONDAY MY 2 BOYS, HUSBAND, AND MYSELF WOULD WATCH SURFACE. IT WAS A GREAT WAY TO START OF THE SCHOOL AND WORK WEEK. SADLY WE WILL HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER FAMILY SHOW TO WATCH TOGETHER BUT I CAN SAY IT WON'T BE ON NBC. I AM TIRED OF NETWORKS THAT GET YOU HOOKED ON A SHOW ONLY TO LEAVE YOU HANGING BY CANCELLING THE SHOW.
August 15th, 2006 at 2:38 pm
yeah who was that guy - if he didnt like surface why did he obvious surf the web looking for websites with surface in it - may they are an nbc execu who found out about how many people are complaining about surface being dropped - anyway watched some of the reruns on sci fi today and now i am curious to why they are doing another rerun on the 26th of sept - do they intend to do a movie or pick up the series - just courious - i will get my dvd this weekend - hope some are left - i saw a lot of tv shows at walmart so hope they have surface - who knows maybe it will sell out and they will have to reprint it - wouldnt that be great - i wonder how many copies they made for the premiere - dont forget - invasion dvd comes out on the 22nd - wish sci fi would rerun that one too
August 15th, 2006 at 2:41 pm
since the 4400 is back for another season, some sci fi must be popular - cant remember who is carrying that - if its usa or bravo they are also part of nbc network
August 15th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
just in passing - anyone who watched reruns of surface on sci fi - today and i am sure there were a lot or even may have taped it - go to sci fi channel and thank them for running it - i did - also saw ad on tv for dvd and there is a website surface-dvd.com i think - did not catch the whole name of website - nbc must have set this up - wonder what they will do with the money from the sale of dvd
August 15th, 2006 at 8:13 pm
I emailed Sci-Fi too(again!)
There's also a petition to sign asking for future seasons of Surface at http://www.savesurface.com
August 15th, 2006 at 10:43 pm
They can't end it like that. We know that Miles and Nim are the key to everything. If Sci-fi won't pick it up, maybe a Sci-fi 2 channel like MTV2 should be started. Maybe we should start writing the sponsers and get them on the band wagon. Let's not forget that when a bunch of christian bocoted "The Book of Danial" it didn't last one episoide. I know we can save Surface. At least get a Movie to tie up the loose ends.

this sucks. surface was great. i will also be writing sci fi to see if they will do a conclusion movie.
August 16th, 2006 at 6:44 pm
I was searching around to see if I could expect one of my favorite shows, Surface, to return this fall. I must say, I can't believe that they cancelled it! Finally, we were getting a break from the flood of reality TV and now this! That just goes to show that the networks care more about ratings than quality shows. And it's not like nobody was watching it. Surface had a very loyal fan base. I don't watch TV to see reality, I watch it to escape from reality. Of course, how did it become reality to eat bull testicles?
August 17th, 2006 at 10:33 am
That sucks! I couldn't wait for the second season and now it's cancelled wnich sucks! I'm not going to watch any NBC show until Surface comes back!
August 17th, 2006 at 4:17 pm
My whole family enjoyed watching both Surface and Invasion and couldn't believe they cancelled both.
I think there are way too many of these idiot reality shows people are just not into, why don't they take those off the air? At least Surface and Invasion were imaginative and entertaining.
August 17th, 2006 at 10:03 pm
I agree with every person who voiced their opinion on the awesome show Surface. Why? I ask, did you cancel the one show that implied thought and left it's fans and kept them hanging on the edge of their seats. Waiting for next Mondays episode. I just want to ask again, will someone pick up SURFACE? I just know that it will be a hit, just look at all of the relpies. And that's only a small fraction of the fans. Please reconsider your actions.
August 18th, 2006 at 7:05 am
What NBC has done is why I do not watch Network TV except for CSI: Las Vegas, The Unit and Survivor. It is hard to get into a show and have them yank it because they feel it doesn't work. I am going to write a letter to each e-mail on the list above to "Hopefully" get the SCI FI channel to pick it up. I can think of 2 or 3 shows the SCI FI channel can dump and put Surface in their places.
August 18th, 2006 at 8:04 am
well i have a great idea - lol - all of us on here and the others who have been protesting to ncb and sci fi = plus all the other surface websites and there are a lot believe me zillions of people loved this show - and i even joined two privately owned fan clubs - we should all take up donations, and hire steven spielberg and the pate brothers to do a 2 hr movie or whatever just to have an ending to the story - same thing for invasion
August 18th, 2006 at 8:05 am
just curious - how many folks on here have bought the dvd or plan to - me when i get paid - i am on social security - or have rented it or plan to rent - would be interesting to see how the sales are going on the dvd
August 18th, 2006 at 8:21 am
I agree. I saw a promo for a new show that looked really interesting to me called "Heros" on NBC coming up in the fall, but I have already decided not to waste my time and just wait until next summer or so to rent the DVD once I know what the fate of the show is. I simply do not have faith in the networks any longer to commit to any of their series.
August 18th, 2006 at 8:25 am
Yes, I agreea movie ending would be great for Surface closure.. They did the same thing with "Serenity" to close up the cancelled Firefly series which was nice. Great movie too by the way.
August 18th, 2006 at 7:23 pm
I bought the DVD. It was #40 on Tuesday of the DVD bestsellers at Amazon.com(it's way farther back right now).
August 18th, 2006 at 7:30 pm
Also, a lot of people from http://www.savesurface.com bought the DVD. At amazon.com, the price for the DVD has dropped a few dollars since Tuesday, perhaps it will go down even a bit more as time goes on.
August 19th, 2006 at 11:39 am
Not being a big fan of "entertainment" television (I primarily watch Fox News, The History Channel and the SciFi channel) I didn't have any idea when television seasons start and end. Last fall I saw previews of "Surface" and decided to watch the first four episodes aired back-to-back on the SciFi channel. I wasn't disappointed. At the time, I didn't know that the SciFi channel would be airing all of the episodes. I was so engrossed in the series that I contacted DishNetwork to request NBC as a part of my television package. I had to wait two months for the approval by the FCC. I have to pay an additional fee for the programming, but I figured "Surface" was worth it. Way to go NBC. Now I remeber why I swiched from cable to Satellite. The broadcast networks are worthless.
I would buy the DVD except that I'd be purchasing an unfinished story. Screw that, and screw NBC; the suits at their headquarters must be idiots. I've already called DishNetwork to cancel NBC from my programming.
August 19th, 2006 at 1:12 pm
NBC BRING BACK SURFACE!!
August 20th, 2006 at 6:21 pm
I am really disappointed about NBC canceling surface. SciFi should difinetly pick this up. NBC shame on you. Enough said.

he we go again…i am going to stop watching tv altogether…1st it was fox with dark angel…now it seems to be nbc with surface…i give up altogether…when will tinsel town learn… ;(
August 21st, 2006 at 6:53 am
This is an example of a monopoly.
August 21st, 2006 at 3:40 pm
Hello…is anyone out there listening? I was so looking foward to seeing the new season, I was left with anticipation for the new season! I've been looking for promos, and just found out a bunch of suits decided to canel a show that has so much potential to being a GREAT show. You SUITS SUCK!
August 21st, 2006 at 4:53 pm
well i went to walmart to get surface and they did not have it so am going to try at circuit city or maybe costco as my daughter has a card - but since i was at walmart to buy cat food - did pick up for 20 bucks all 3 jurassic park dvds in a single pack so bum out on dinosaur movies today
August 21st, 2006 at 4:55 pm
hey still trying to find where i can write steven spielberg to do surface movie or continue series - its worth a try
August 21st, 2006 at 5:57 pm
Wow! should have proof read my reply (104) Sorry, but I was pissed!!! Anywhoo NBC has a new show coming on this season…HERO!? hummmm? Don't know if I should even consider watch it. It has a interesting concept, but do I really want to watch a show week after week become a loyal viewer then have them pull the show at the end of the season!? What am I saying NBC would never do that…RIGHT?
August 21st, 2006 at 6:05 pm
amazon.com has Surface DVDs if anyone can't find them in a local store.
August 22nd, 2006 at 1:33 pm
Is there any thing we could do to convince them to bring it back or another station to pick it up?
August 28th, 2006 at 12:49 am
I just saw that the DVD was released recently and while reading reviews noticed that this was cancelled. Like everyone else on here I am disappointed beyond belief. Surface, along with Lost and Invasion were the only shows I would watch on tv, and also one of the shows everyone in my office would talk about. Reality TV gets boring quickly and hardly excites my imagination. I'll be buying the DVD version but I hope that this gets picked up by SciFi.
August 28th, 2006 at 9:55 am
I can't believe they canceled invasion and surface The two best shows on tv. What idiots
August 28th, 2006 at 1:19 pm
What a shame that it will not be continued - The season 1 finale just aired here in Germany and it was really good. I would love to see the series to go on. The mental connection between Miles and Nim was really promising …
August 28th, 2006 at 3:39 pm
Damn… I LOVED this show. Can't beleive it got cancalled!
August 28th, 2006 at 5:00 pm
suface even got me interested in it and Im only 12 years old yhat show was so good my whole family whatched it now we are so disippoint that it has bin cancalled thats the only reason why I watch nbc all the other shows are weak and stupid I hope that that the whole nbc channel gets shut down surface was the best show I have ever watched.nbc is the most dumdes channel in the world.
August 28th, 2006 at 5:13 pm
OMFG surface was the best show, Nbc needs to get better people incharge over there..
August 28th, 2006 at 9:21 pm
Know what I think they should cancel the whole nbc network.I could care less about nbc now.I'LL just watch the 4400.
August 28th, 2006 at 9:32 pm
I am goinging on a stike to never watch nbc agian unless they put on a newseason of surface me and 100 of my family members and all all 10000 of my friend and trust me I HAVE ALOT OF FRIENDS FROM ALL OVER THE U.S.A and MORE FAMILY MEMBERS THAN U WILL EVER HAVE .HOW WANTS TO watch now that OUR favorite tv show is gone.
August 29th, 2006 at 1:42 pm
Are there nuts to cancel my shows like The West Wing, Surface, Invasion, Threshold, Medium?, are they that stupid, they should cancel these stupid reality shows, and "American crap Idol" shows. I hate reality shows.
August 30th, 2006 at 8:46 am
Any word on if Sci fi will be picking up on the surface?
August 30th, 2006 at 8:46 am
Any word on if Sci fi will be picking up on surface?
August 30th, 2006 at 4:16 pm
According to an interview with Josh and Jonas Pate(the writers of Surface) in the Winston-Salem Journal
http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WSJ%2FMGArticle%2FWSJ_RelishArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1149190170674&path=
the Pates are hoping that Surface will have future seasons and that is the reason they are not divulging their planned ending of the show to fans. As stated in the article, The Sci-Fi Channel has stated that they don’t have the funds for a new show like Surface. Encouraged by the optimism of the Pate brothers, Surface fans worldwide are planning to participate in the Great Tsunami Campaign where we will send at least two emails a day and postcards with ocean/Surface themes to Kevin Reilly, President of NBC each day from September 15, 2006-September 22, 2006. Please voice your opinion and tell Mr.Reilly that there are MANY Surface fans who want another season of Surface. (You may also want to add that you will not be watching other shows on NBC if they are so easily able to disregard viewer loyalty to their new television shows). Also, if you haven’t already signed the online petition requesting a second season of Surface, visit http://www.savesurface.com and add your name and thoughts to the petition, meet other Surface fans, or talk about Surface.

The final just aired in germany and I loved the show. Really one of the best shows in the last years. And a lot of my friends watched it too. Can't understand why cancel such a great show.
I will participat in Great Tsunami Campaign, really hope it will reach them and there will be a second season and hopefully more.
September 5th, 2006 at 4:14 pm
why cancell surface going to leave us hanging i want surface why acnt you cancell some other dunb show and then you cancel invasion to this really sucks big time. if nbc doesnt want it give it to sci fi
September 5th, 2006 at 5:08 pm
NBC is DUM
they will probably do like fox (bringing back family guy) and bring back surface in 2years hopefully they will not have lost a entire fan base by then; you know a fan base that has a entire network devoted to it (Sci-FI) that they had the market cornered on
September 5th, 2006 at 8:19 pm
i didn't read all 124 of these before me but the idear of getting SciFi channle to pick up Surface is of great interest to me. If anyone has the knowhow I wish you could let me know. It would seem that NBC has not learned any lessons from another show they canelled "Star Trek". I mean, has anyone ever heard of that show?
September 5th, 2006 at 8:57 pm
#8 Carrie, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!
I Just read yours and if it was not for the fact that, we don't know each other, we won't get to know each other, you might be married, your husband might kick my butt… I would ask u to marry me. I don't Understand what makes networks think that, that is what all of America wants to watch. Every night. Sometimes twice a night. I could live the rest of my life and two other peoples’ lives with out seeing one…More.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:23 pm
Erik,
The pates have said that Sci-Fi is NOT an option because a show like Surface is not something they have in their budget. Current efforts are focused on NBC.
September 6th, 2006 at 3:35 pm
i like the comments by the kids - maybe they could all email nbc - as to last comment, since sci fi owned by nbc can not see why they cant pick it up - guess each channel has a budge but there are a lot of nbc channels on tv - cnbc, msnbc, nbc, sci fi and i think bravo too is nbc - guess the writers have been petitioning too to get their show back - if they do decide to do another set - hope they would use the same actors - we have all gotten attachment to the actors in the first series and it would be hard to adopt a whole new set of actors
September 6th, 2006 at 3:40 pm
as for a likable ending - just have one of the creatures eat the creator - you know in book of jurassic park - hammond was killed and eaten but when they made the movie spielberg changed the ending which was good and in all 3 movies hammond is never eaten - but other characters are including the guy in the first movie who turned off the computer so he got his judgement -
September 7th, 2006 at 9:48 am
It really makes me mad i have been waiting all summer to see what will happen this fall. And what do you do cancel the show. I am really mad you could have at least let us know before know. You wait till it is time for the fall shows to start and dumb on us.
Thanks alot
September 7th, 2006 at 11:41 am
Hey everyone! My husband and I are also very angry that Surface was cancelled. But I do have some very good information for any of you who are Invasion fans. Whoever said that it was cancelled has been misinformed. The season premiere of Invasion comes on Wednesday, September 21st at 10:00pm on ABC. It is on the fall lineup if you go to abc.com. This made me feel a little bit better when I found out that both of my favorite shows had not been cancelled. I hope it can make someone else feel better. I hope they decide to bring Surface back too, after they see how many of us love the show. I also do not want anything to do with NBC anymore because of this!!!
September 7th, 2006 at 3:23 pm
are u sure abc bringing back invasion - they have a new show that will follow LOST on wed called the nine and the first lost wont air until oct 4th - unless they are bowing to public pressure invasion was cancelled because it was too expensive to film - that was the report early this summer from abc
September 7th, 2006 at 3:45 pm
i chked website about 9/21 for invasion and that was written in may and description was what we had already seen so abc needs to update its webpages for invasion - aol tv said invasion wont be back and they are running the nine in place of it - went to invasion website and it had gotten 5 stars but a poll on abc fall lineup asked what show viewers were waiting for and something like 47% said grey anatomy while only 27% were waiting for lost - so that tells u something right there - grey will be running on thurs nite against csi la vegas which i always watch and tape - while lost will still be on wed nite and the nine will run against csi ny - maybe that is why abc dropped invasion - it ran against a tough show but i just happened to see it the first nite it started (always tape csi ny) and got hooked on it - now spike, and a & e rerunning csi shows so you can see how popular they are - i will watch grey and tape csi and i tape lost and watch it too but it clearly has dropped in the ratings and may be gone soon as i for one have really lost interest in it as by now they should have a better story line to why they are on island and who the others are - and they are introducing some new characters which goes to show the story line aint that good - i wont miss lost if it goes but i do miss surface and invasion
September 7th, 2006 at 3:51 pm
just a thot - if nbc would even do a half hour show of surface and add to sat morn line up for kids - i WOULD WATCH IT - instead of those stupid cartoons that they make for kids with robots and stuff - this show you learned about the ocean and the creatures living in it besides the obvious fake sea creatures - why cant they do something with suface along those lines - teach kids about the fragility of the ocean and still have the story
September 7th, 2006 at 6:01 pm
I am quite ticked off about NBC canceling Surface. It was a great family show, my son really got into this show and now I have to tell him that it is no longer on. I agree with every comment on reality shows, to me they are stupid and degrading!!!!! As if life isn't reality enough. To me this world is to much into drama! I do agree and would love to see Surface come on Sci-Fi. Friday nights are dedicated to Stargate and Stargate Atlantis. I have also enjoyed some of there Saturday Night movies. So putting Surface on Sci-fi would be a bonus!! Unfortunatly I like NBC Numbers but it is on at the same time as Atlantis, and when it comes to choice I would choose Atlantis anytime. Again I hope they bring Surface to Sci-fi, and then my son would not be so disappointed like I know he will be.
September 8th, 2006 at 10:47 am
What a great show Surface was, I am very disapointed in NBC. I agree about the reality shows, CAN'T STAND THEM!!! My son loved surface and has been bugging me every day when it's coming back on. Now I have to tell him it's not… He is really going to hate that. It was one of the few shows we could watch together. So far not very impressed with the fall line up on NBC either. Enough with the crime drama and reality shows already! It's Been done and done and done…. Bring back Surface at least it was original!
September 8th, 2006 at 11:31 pm
just in passing - animal planet on sunday from noon till 6 pm eastern and pacific time is running tribute to steve irwin - wouldnt it have been nice if he could have been a character in surface and had contact with a larger nimrod
September 9th, 2006 at 6:10 pm

September 9th, 2006 at 10:09 pm
my husband and i are also very disappointed that surface and commander in chief were cancelled. i am sure it is partly due to cost, but what a pity. we have both emailed all of the NBC folks as well as signing the petition. good luck to the Pate brothers! we are behind you!
September 9th, 2006 at 11:47 pm
sci fi says they cant afford surface well they made a couple of dragon movies and those must not have been cheap to make because they were computer generated
went back to save surface website and you can only sign the petition once but you can post messages on the message board and there are lots of messages
i double ck listing for abc for 9/21 and that was an old web page from last year which they shd have deleted - i can always email the webmaster and tell them to update their pages
September 9th, 2006 at 11:50 pm
on another note on the save surface website - you can speculate how the creatures were made - what dna and why orchids were important - kind of fun to make up your own ideas - i think they are a cross between crocodiles and a dragon or sea monster - remember reptiles continue to grow their whole lives so how long have they been in ocean
September 11th, 2006 at 9:41 am
Hello. 9/21 is not even a Wed this year. I got so excited when I first read that post. Then just to find out that it was due to a lack of updating a website. I knew there was something wrong because a new show is coming on after Lost.
The conclusion I think was sufficent for Invasion. Larkin was put in the water and everyone came to the water and knew what he had done. They knew there was no stopping it.
September 12th, 2006 at 2:56 am
i belong to a privately owned surface website on yahoo groups and got the following in an email today and i checked it out - its nice
its called Surface From Fans for Fans or http://Surface.akahee.de/mainer.html
i guess it must be in another country besides usa dont know de country that is - germany?? - it is in english - hope you can find it ok - cannot email website to this list
September 12th, 2006 at 6:20 pm
this is horrible! i just found out. i loved both surface and invasion! sure, there is lost…but…why would they just stop making the other 2? it really makes me question the point of TV now adays if they wont finish what they've started.
and if they canceled those, why would they keep around those horrible "comedies" ?!
September 12th, 2006 at 8:39 pm
I CANT BELIEVE THAT THEY CANCELLED SURFACE THAT WAS A GREAT FAMILY SHOW. IT WAS THE ONLY SHOW MY SON AND I WOULD AGREE ON. THE NETWORKS DO THIS ALL THE TIME. IT IS JUST WRONG!
September 13th, 2006 at 12:16 pm
heartbroken, just friggin heartbroken. I'm sick to death of American Idol, the other unReality shows are pathetic. House is pretty good but at risk of redundancy, same with Numb3rs. I've had Surface in the back of my mind as something to really, really look forward to this year - now there's nothing. TV sucks.
September 13th, 2006 at 8:02 pm
SURFACE, CANCELLED!!!! No way. I did not see any closure in the season finale. How do they get off the roof with all the creature things surrounding them??? Daughtry just found out that the government was doing it. And how do they fix the fact that those things were trying to take over the world (ish) Plus Miles was HOT!!!! that's the only reason why I watched the show in the first place and I really got into it.

I haven't been this disappointed since SHO cancelled Dead Like Me… wtf man, i wish we had more say and could do more to prevent these damn execs from cancelling good shows. i can think of at least 5 horrible shows now that SHOULD easily be cancelled.. yet they continue on.. its total bs.

one of my favorite movies from the 1950's i guess was the orginal blob with steve mcqueen and dont forget the giant ants - them and then the giant spider - a couple of them - later on sci fi channel ran those crazy worm movies guess they were filmed out here in the desert somewhere and then sci fi also did dune - as to show popular of sci fi movies - all 3 star war movies - the first 3 are now out on dvd - i do not watch any reality shows except the ones on abc where they build a hose for someone - lost will be back on the 4th but most of my viewing will be on cbs - csi all 3 shows, numbers i like - besides lost on abc i watch grey anatomy but surface on monday nite made tv great as i am not a foot ball fan and nothing else was on
September 16th, 2006 at 3:51 pm
LOL This was the only show on nbc i watched ahwell ther goes another viewer
September 18th, 2006 at 2:29 pm
What is real about reality tv. They going to let someone die. No real life threating events.
Ted Turner Aprentist, what a joke. He wanted to trademake "Your fired" he didn't get that.
Martha Stuwart, Jail Bird.
My name is Earl, funny about twice. Then Bah!
I watched the TV networks when cable is in reruns and the other ones. I guess I will have to watch cable reruns. I would cancle local stations if I could pick them up. The wife likes local news and weather.
Oh hers is some info!!!

September 19th, 2006 at 6:03 pm
I think it SUCKS that they cxl'd SURFACE!!!! One of the best shows to air in a long time, and kept one coming back week after week. I agree w/ Geeka#6 post on 9/13 that there was NO CLOSURE at all. They just found out that it was all gov't created, etc. Too bad! Some mucky-muck sitting in an ivory tower made a bad call, as this show had the makings of the next Star Trek! Maybe we'll see a revival on SciFi and someone will pick it up and continue with the story line! Oh well!
September 20th, 2006 at 2:53 pm
The last episode just ran in South Africa. I thought I would just take a peek at season two on the net. Finding out it was cancelled is almost too much to digest. What kind off sick TV executive cancels a show with a loyal following of 9 million viewers a week? The responsible people need to be committed for psychiatric evaluation and immediately relieved of any management duties.
I need to ask this. Is everything ok over there in the USA? I don’t understand the decisions being made in the USA anymore. I mean, I was against the war in Iraq as it made no sense to me but this I must say is even more unbelievable. The world is really going crazy.
September 21st, 2006 at 5:44 am
I am so bumbed. I just got on the web this morning to find out when I could see the season opening for Surface and Invasion. To find these two shows canceled is beyond a disapointing. We can have three CSI's, endless variations on Dr. shows, How many reality shows but we can't keep something original. Once again those in charge prove that they have NO clue to what the public wants and then they wonder why veiwership is dropping I watch less television now than I EVER have in my entire life. And as I see what's coming up this season I can see that trend continuing.
September 21st, 2006 at 6:51 pm
This sucks. Surface and Invasion were my two absolute favorite TV shows. I was really looking forward to watching them this fall. I hate sitcoms (most) and reality TV is getting waay boring. God forbid something different be on TV.
PLEASE BRING THESE SHOWS BACK!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:55 am
hi there all sci fi fans i got to watch surface here in australia and got hooked on it only to find out it was getting the chop. why? what the hell was wrong with it. and as for the ending, what ending it left so much open where were the mono rails going to,what were they doing down there, what about the cloning, these are just some of the things they needed to tie up but didnt. but as usuall they take of anything sci fi.
we need to get it back. these nbc execs need to stop and take a look at what the people want not what they tell people to watch.

In case Poetry didn't mention it, she and I are running the Tsunami campaign to save surface at this site.
WE are NOT a commercial site, merely a fan site, however we are the central web locatiion of efforts to save the show. By al means, continue to post here, but we'd also appreciate if you'd join the ongoing efforts at our site.
Since tsunamis come in sets, we will be launching a second wave for another week, starting Friday the 13th of Oct. If Mr Reilly expects us to go away and forget how he ignored 9 million regular viewers (in spite of zero network support) and cancelled Surface in order to put on cheap crap, he has another thing coming.
Please help us out. You will find Mr Reilly's email address and snail mail address above or at our site. This campaign will be slightly different as we will emphasize sending water-themed postcards (two a day at least) as opposed to the email focus of the first wave. Remember to account for mailing time by sending them 2 or 3 days early. Thanks to all and esp. to J. Wynia for allowing us to post this stuff. He rocks.
September 22nd, 2006 at 5:38 pm
Hi!
I just searched on google to see where I could find my website. So… that lead me here
I feel very honoured that my page got mentioned.
You were right, the site is lokated in Germany. And it is available in german and in english. But I saw that there is a typo in the link.
So here is the correct URL (which is enough, cuz you can navigate from there)
http://surface.akahee.de
Thank you! And lets save Surface! (German Fans enjoied the Tsunami, hope NBC didn't *g*)
September 23rd, 2006 at 4:46 am
STILL READING COMMENTS FROM OTHER PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD AND I AM CURIOUS - ON THE ONE WEBSITE THAT IS TRYING TO SAVE SURFACE - THEY MENTION THERE WAS OVER 9 MILLION VIEWERS - THAT MUST MEAN JUST IN THE USA - AS THERE SEEMS THERE WAS A LOT MORE AROUND THE WORLD - WONDER IF ANYONE AS ACTUAL FIGURES OF HOW MANY VIEWERS THERE REALLY WAS - SURELY MORE THAN 9 MILLION
September 23rd, 2006 at 5:16 am
Thats right! Here are the german quotes compared to Lost…
SURFACE over 2 Mio. viewer
LOST 1-1.5 Mio. viewers
So, what is NBC thinking!?
September 23rd, 2006 at 12:56 pm
I love lost but I also really loved surface what is abc thinking.
September 24th, 2006 at 10:40 am
steve irwin memorial - in case anyone missed it animal planet is rerunning the memorial service for steve irwin at 9 pm - guess that would be est and pacific so go to animal planet website and ck time for your area - too bad we did not have steve on surface - he would have put traking on those critters!!
September 24th, 2006 at 10:47 am
Canal + France has just started showing Surface. I love the series already, and I am sad to see that there is no second season! I will still watch the full season though, since I am already caught in it.
C'est dommage!
September 26th, 2006 at 7:14 pm
"Cmon folks, The acting from Nim's little nimrod owner was brutal. Not surprised it was cancelled. When one of the main characters is an awful actor and Writers and directors did not help him out, it was doomed.
September 26th, 2006 at 7:20 pm
I agree with the rest of the crowd here, I think that when the writers could not come up with any more ideas realty tv was born, I think it should join the diso era and be gone, why should the public be punished because writer don't have an imagination to complete the story that was started, I believe the fans should have a shot at writing an ending to surface. being that the writers whom get the big bucks can not do it.Now the disco was just a punch I happen to like that also.

just have to reply to reply number 171 - if carter jenkins was such a bad actor - why was he on taken and also a week ago monday on csi miami - take out your frustration on the executives of surface not the actors and writers
September 27th, 2006 at 7:16 am
relity TV, totaly SCUKS. I mean, Who realy cares for what happens inside the house of a Has Been or how is the life of a Nobody. Those aren't reality, those are SCRIPTS!!!!!
If you beleive that wiht all the problems that actors and celebrities go to keep their privacy, that they will allow millions to see them for REAL, my frinds that's where you are wrong. They fake it, but say it is real. The truth is the those show should not be called "Realiry Showa" but "Fantasy Shows"
IMHO, If I take all those relity shows and mix them up in a blender I couldn't make one half Surface.

I am upset that Surface is over. My family looked forward to the new season and the big finale ending to finally get some answers and they decided to cancel? What the &*$@!!!I LOVED that show and still do. Gonna miss it greatly.
September 27th, 2006 at 4:09 pm
Trust me Kevy. I am from Germany and I know what bad acting in a tv series means… Carter Jenkins does not belong in that section!
And Reality TV… gee, if any of you watch them, you should get into Surface for sure. It's not half as fake as those shows!
Ppl. don't forget the second tsunami is coming soon! Get prepared, and if you like get more info on it on my site.
October 1st, 2006 at 6:28 am
One would think that NBC, with some of the poorest programming this season, basically trumped by ABC's Lost,Grey's Anatomy, and etc, not to mention CBS' CSI series, Survivor, and others, would make a concerted effort to be bold and innovative. Surface was thought provoking, exciting, and light hearted all at once. It was an hour of fine entertainment, something that NBC deperately needed during their sustained "drought." I am not in the 18-49 range of viewer but a few years older and many in my age group share my love of Surface and my disappointment at its untimely demise. This was a bad decision NBC; reconsider it please.
October 3rd, 2006 at 7:05 pm
Man that sure blows. I was looking forward to watching Surface and find out the answers to some of the questions. MAN NBC, the least you could do is make some "Final Episode" or something and answer those questions…….But somehow I knew when they first aired the show that they would discontinue it after the first season….Just like back about 15 years ago (or so) there was a great show called "Viper" and they had their season finale and left the viewers with tons of questions, but then the show disappeared….good thing I have the episodes on VHS…..
October 4th, 2006 at 1:38 pm
They keep stupid shows like Earl or Office but one that is for the entire family is axed. So what about the main characters - are they stuck on that church tower for eternity??
Also, I like Medium - where is it?? Surely it can't have been canceled. Patricia Arquette received an award for best actress. That should count for something!!

I'm so pissed about both of my favorite shows being cancelled…I hadn't had time to see where they were 'til today…
Stupid reality shows are ruling (ruining) the world!!!!
October 14th, 2006 at 4:51 pm
Here I had been waiting all summer for them to bring back Surface and Invasion and they canelled them both. Surface was the best Tv show ever, they need to bring it back. I also agree they need to take off some of these STUPID reality shows they STINK.
October 14th, 2006 at 4:54 pm

October 16th, 2006 at 12:20 am
i kept waiting to hear of surface reappearing and it's been tugging on my brain to find out what the heck happened to it…hence, thanks for your web site. a great show - must have been too expensive to justify keeping it, though i imagine that horrible show deal or no deal had something to do with it. takes no imagination to do a show like that. i watched once. haven't watched it again.
i feel at odds because things weren't tidied up for us surface fans. fyi - i'm 58 and female. i skewer the demographic. LOL.
well, this isn't the first expensive and/or good show to be taken off the air. the tv graveyard is littered with them, unfortunately. and yet, how does nbc explain the many years of that freakin' fear show? ewe is right.
October 17th, 2006 at 1:16 pm
Please tell me there is a mistake??? My family has been waiting the long arrival of the next season….and it's cancelled????? Serioulsy because of My Name Is Earl??/ I hate Earl. I WANT SURFACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can't just leave us all hanging!!!
October 17th, 2006 at 7:42 pm
It was not *because* of Earl. I just happen to like Earl and noted that it was renewed the same day that Surface was cancelled. You may note that the site is subtitled "The Glass is Too Big", and noting those 2 events seemed a balance of something I wanted to happen and something I didn't, which fits my philosophy nicely.
For the record, in nearly every single season of TV, there are at least 5 or 6 shows that get cancelled that I like and at least 1 or 2 that I'm seriously disappointed about. Without fail. Surface was one of the fatalities last season.
October 19th, 2006 at 2:19 am
i picked up copy of surface on tuesday when i bought my dvd recorder - got it at circuit city - anyway, use the addresses that were on a previous comment on here to rewrite and re=email nbc and sci fi to pick up surface = this is going on until the 20th of this month
October 21st, 2006 at 6:22 pm
My husband and I are both very upset that Invasion and Surface were cancelled. We thought they were both great shows especially Surface. Sometimes I wonder what the network big guys are thinking. The shows were barely given a chance. I hope who ever decided to cancel the shows gets fired. Obviously their judgement is questionable at best. They would probably be better suited to judge in a parade.
October 22nd, 2006 at 8:27 pm
Crap…I have been waiting & waiting for Surface to start the new season. I just found out about the cancellation. I hate getting hooked on a program, only to have it cancelled. Thanks a lot NBC, for cancelling it AND for letting everyone know. I am not a happy NBC viewer anymore. My entire family watched every episode of Surface. Maybe SciFi channel will pick it up, the way they did for other shows. I wish the networks would realize that not everyone likes their alleged "reality" shows.
October 22nd, 2006 at 10:00 pm
Several members of our family watched every episode of Surface last season. In general most TV today is not really that great. We started watching Surface because the entire idea of this show was very unique. If NBC had a good reason to end the show, they could have properly ended the series. My family believed the show would return this fall. When the show did not return during the 2006/2007 season, we knew the show had likely ended. We confirmed our suspicions by searching the internet. This is the exact reason why I have a small satellite dish - My family can always find something of interest to watch. Good luck to the major networks - They are going to need all the help they can get.
October 25th, 2006 at 12:05 am
What you said is what i needed to hear. Everyone, atleast in the States, watches the worst shows I've ever seen. My roommates watch crap that makes me feel like I'm retarded (Laguna Beach). It is so frustrating to see a good show cancelled just because most viewers lack an imagination and have terrible taste in just about everything.
October 25th, 2006 at 8:08 am
Crap…crap. We've been waiting and waiting for Surface and Invasion to start the new season. We just found out thru this website that they have been canceled….what a disappointment. My husband and I refuse to watch reality TV. We need a Hero..a person…with the power to bring the shows back! I can't even get into Lost..we want Surface and Invasion back! that's the bottom line…
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:50 pm
What is with this trend of making awesome shows , getting all the fans hooked and then cancelling the damn show??
Let's see here just a quick recap of the past season:
Threshold - GONE
Night Stalker - GONE
Surface - GONE
Invasion - GONE
And just recently the morons at SPIKETV Cancelled the Blade series !!!!
Although this one I blame "Kirk sticky Jones" for more than the execs, he sucked as blade all they should have done is fired his poor acting ass put a new actor in the role of Blade and moved on to season 2. Even despite his acting the show still had huge ratings and they cancelled it anyway ( I'm sure there were other shows from last season I forgot to mention also )
And the real kicker is if it was at all possible to barter with these idiots running the networks , I would gladly have traded all of these other shows just to see another season of Surface!!!!!
I'm amazed that Supernatural made it to a 2nd season , thank the T.V. gods for that.
And now Heroes is on NBC this year , and I really like this show but you know what? It makes me very very nervous to even get into this show because it's pretty obvious that the odds are greatly in favor that all the Heroes fans generated this year are just gonna get jacked again come next season.
November 12th, 2006 at 8:35 pm
I absolutely loved Surface and have been waiting all fall for it to come back on. Didn't even know they cancelled it? This was one of the shows that I would rush home to watch. I can't tell you how bummed all 5 of my kids and I are to not have it still on the air! As to closure on the finale…where was it?
There wasn't any closure..it kind of opened up a really cool underground world and left you wanting more for next season. I am sooooo bummed somebody do something!
November 16th, 2006 at 8:26 pm
I am very upset that Surface is no longer on, there just isn't anything on anymore it just seems like there is the same stuff on every channel. How and why would they cancel something so good and leave these other shows that are stupid and boring on the air?
November 17th, 2006 at 2:12 pm
I LOVED Surface and Invasion! How does "My Name is Earl" etc. even compete. My husband says if he never gets involved in a new series on T.V. it will be to soon! DVD's will replace T.V. all together if the powers that be don't get their act together! Reality shows stink, but alot of people like them too! Why do those fans get all the viewing and we get shut down completely. Who said our shows wont't survive another season?
Dosen't any one care? Silly, of course not!
November 21st, 2006 at 1:34 pm
I just now found out that Surface is cancelled?! THIS SUCKS. I am very disappointed because I loved that show! I'd rather to see Desperate housewives or Grey Anatomny CANCELLED instead. I just DON'T get it why they gotta cancel the show and leave us wondering! THAT show better come back!
November 21st, 2006 at 4:14 pm
I am a young kid who would get ready on there couch with popcorn to watch SURFACE.
It was summer and i was thinking what had happened to surface. I went on the computer and saw it was canncelled. I would cry my self to sleep and still do. I would do anything for surface to come on. I am talking to everyone Sony, ABC, sci-fi. Now I watch the show heroes but i still miss nim and my show surface. I wanted to see how miles and little nimmy would grow up and beat up the other sea creatures and how the other two doctors would find out more of the creatures and miles family and friends if nimmy gets a girlfriend of the creatures. I would do anything or anything in my power to help put the show on again I will write a book on it do season two myself or pay money for you to put it on again Please. I will die if you don't
December 4th, 2006 at 6:04 pm
i've to tell i'm french and i've just finished the first season of surface and what i learn? no 2nd season but it's just the beginning, the two groups are together, i want to know how they'll get out of this church and how koetsler want to bring back all animals after this.
I can understand that channel want to make money but it's not necessary to only do commercial series they HAVE to give some good series
but it's for me more difficult to find good scifi series because of my situation
December 19th, 2006 at 8:18 pm
I am sorry to see that quality programs die and you let other cheap and stupid programs alive, reality does not sucks but reality show sucks you also have stupid series with no humor at all and very poorly writen that you think are funny, but they are not!
I WILL RATHER GO OUT THAN WATCH TV !, please bring back SURFACE AS YOUR JOB IS NOT TO LET ME OUT OF THE HOUSE
December 26th, 2006 at 9:58 am
putain::::: from France!!!!!!!!Why you stop Surface?????? is not possible!!!!Grrrrr!r!!
December 27th, 2006 at 12:34 am
Pull your head out and cancel the bad shows, not the great ones. I am on the brink of never watching network TV again…..
January 3rd, 2007 at 8:01 pm
PLEASE GIVE ME CLOSURE!!! What the heck gives (or takes)? NBC you had a great thing going and you just screwed up. I will no longer care to watch your station for you took away my motivation. : 0
January 4th, 2007 at 7:57 pm
Okay cancelling Surface was the dumbest thing nbc has ever done. I mean my family and I love deal or no deal but still Surface?? If they really want to cancel Surface atleast show us what happens. There are many people that would rather law and order but still they are a ton of peoople that want to see what happens. A little advice pick Surface back up and show us what happens, then cancel. Surface was and still will remain the best show ever.
February 1st, 2007 at 12:20 pm
I think cancelling Surface frustrated more than just Europe and USA. Me and my friends from Turkey want it back as well and I was just searching if there were other people that wanted it back as well… I don't know what to do at the moment but I signed up in sited like savesurface.com and encouraged my friends to do so as well… I hope Surface will continue! Its the show I like the most with Will & Grace and I even bought their DVDS original (which is quite a weird thing to do in Turkey since we have no original DVDs but many "pirate" ones as we call them… I bought them via Amazon.co.uk just because I thought Surface's creators & actors et al. deserve to be paid…
Please don't give up!! They can't ignore the audience [I hope:P]
February 12th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
One (four) more voices crying out for the return of Surface. How about as a mid season replacement for some of the losers out this season?
February 23rd, 2007 at 1:48 pm
Come on, what the hell is going on with the so called decision makers?? It was bad enough finding out that Surface was AXED!! But what the FRAK have they cancelled Invasion for!!?? IT makes no fraking sense! Some of the best modern SCIFI around!! How do those nimrods make these real stupid decision to cut a GOOD show. They are polling the wrong people! For GODSAKE, at least give us a conclusion on both Surface and Invasion! How can we get them back?????
March 16th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
To the powers that be, it would be nice if NBC would have some closure on Surface and Invasion before the Scifi channel picks up the first season. I am a fan of NBC but was greatly disapponted by the lack of closure, for us the fathful watchers, for both shows. I have greatly reduced the shows that I watch on NBC because the shows are on NBC have failed to catch my interest. I feel these two shows catered to a different type of viewer and now the only show that comes close is Heroes, I think that the variety of shows should be decided by the faithful viewers like us. It isn't always about ratings, sometimes it is actually about the people who are watching.
April 2nd, 2007 at 8:11 am
I found this performing a search to see when Surface was coming back on only to find that it has been canceled. NBC, you guys suck. How about this for a show, Have a comeback special for Surface and give America a chance to vote to bring it back or let it go. Either way it should generate interest and most of your shows are polling America anyway.
April 11th, 2007 at 9:44 am
I caught a few mid-season episodes on Channel 6 (Ireland). When I was in the US I bought the DVDs, and I recently finished watching them. Surface had such potential, it was looking to be an excellent series, and the final episode was anticlimactic, it leaves so much unanswered.. I mean the writers did do a good job of closing some of the stories and answering some of the questions, but they need more seasons to do it proper. For viewers in the UK and Ireland, I would strongly suggest emailing Sky Television (www.sky.com) as their main channel Sky One tends to pick up good shows like Stargate, they did co-produce the BSG miniseries in 2003, so who knows.
May 12th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
WAT? the hell were they thinking about canceling surface i think people dont realize that people acually like the show it rocked while it lasted i guess u cant just make 1 season of a show that was pulling in a lot of viewers and i didnt even realize the show was canceled untill just now wat aload of $hit
May 15th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
I am absolutely furious that they canceled Surface!!! FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! because, what happens next?
May 20th, 2007 at 4:49 am
I am from Denmark, and I can say that I know a lot of people here in the country, that wants this show back again!
Cant we send a writen letter or something to the producers, and ask them to bring it back.. you know, show them that we are many that are interested in buying it and seeing it continued!!
Superb story and superb monsters!! Love it!!!

I refuse to get hooked on watching "Heroes". I'll be damned if I'm going to get pulled in to another series and have it canceled. Surface was the first series in years that captured my attention. Not only did these idiots dump the show without warning… but to leave the fans hanging… what amazingly abusive treatment of viewers. NBC is NOT doing it to me again. I'll pick up a book or tune into to the SciFi channel before I tune into an NBC series again.

I am very disappointed that NBC canceled Surface. It is unfair to begin a story line and then end it with no real closure. Hopefully someone will continue the series in another format to allow the faithful viewers to seek conclusion.
They place way too much emphasis upon reality shows. What has happened to good TV? Sci-Fi shows don't seem to last long on prime time television. I couldn't care less that Joe Blow chooses to date or where he takes that date. I live in reality each and every day. I want to escape it, not relive it again on TV in the evening.
What ever happened to the process of having to think about a serious story line? Does it take too much energy and thought process to figure out who did it? Is that why the TV executives in charge continue to throw junk at us? Who dates who? Who wins the talent contest? Who loses the most weight? Who gets fired tonight? Who cares? I don't!
In the past couple of years, I have found myself watching less TV and resorting to purchasing DVDs to add to my collection. As a matter of fact, yesterday I made it point to purchase Surface on DVD.
What I find most insulting of all, is canceling a show and not giving a warning in advance to viewers. That just recently happened to our house hold when Jordan was cancelled. And there was NO closure to the show as far as I'm concerned.
I won't allow myself to get sucked in to watching a new show, only for it to be cancelled weeks later.
Surface will continue on through the eyes of our cat we named Nimrod and with the release of Surface on DVD.

This was the best show I've seen in a long time… by cancelling it in favor of reality shows, NBC has demonstrated a great leadership, just like CNN with their incessant coverage of Paris Hilton.. It all boils down to the mentality and lack of imagination of their smart-ass CEOs. This should be a no-brainer for Sci-Fi..

GOT SOME GREAT NEWS - got email letter from someone posting on savesurface.com and they said that kevin o'reilly is out at nbc and now nbc wants to do quality programing so they are urging everyone who loved surface to go post on that website - it is savesurface.com and clik on boards and go to nim petition 2.0 - there is a message board there and they have a date for 7/11 to send tons of salt to nbc so go ck it out - if you want to contact person prviately their email is there on the board - i also sent letter to moderator of this group and to a guy in germany that has a website for surface under fansforsurface as he said people in germany were mad that surface was cancelled

I started to watch Surface recently in Universal-HD and got hooked up to it. yesterday was July 4th I didnt even go out of my house, just to finish Surface marathon. Today I came up online trying to find out when the second season is going to start and I got this, Crap! Crap! I hate these cooporate suits! Dont they have any taste to tell a good show from those bad ones flooding every channel rightnow? or they're too greedy to give a ratass about how viewers feel.
I m so pissed off right, I feel so small. This country needs a superman, just to save canned good shows, and kick some coporate suits asses!!!

I think it is a poor excuse to cancell the show when your receiving all kinds of good reviews about the series. NBC should refund everybody that bought season 1. Now there leaving the fans hanging.
November 1st, 2007 at 10:17 pm
NBC, if you don't hear the fans ask for some closure, how about us fans just quit watching nbc period. And you will lose out on alot of ratings, and then you will come CRAWLING back. But we will just do the same thing you did to us, NOT LISTEN and act like we don't hear you. I will promote every fan that watches NBC NOT TO WATCH IT. SORT OF LIKE A STRIKE FROM FANS. Keep ignoring us and i will be watching and if you do not listen, THEN THE HELL WITH YOU THEN.
November 6th, 2007 at 11:21 pm
I've already stopped watching NBC. I don't see the point. They've nothing much to offer that's interesting and even if they did, I'd worry about becoming hooked on one of their series and having them pull another stunt as with SURFACE. There are many other networks offering entertaining series and events. With so many other choices, I'll stick to the stations I trust not to treat their viewers so badly.

I think it is obvious why Surface and Invasion got cancelled and moronic shows were left to do their mental damage. Both Surface and Invasion allowed you to use your imagination, think etc. The other shows simply appeal to the non-thinking part of our selves, getting us to buy products and be mindless consumer drones. Also I think network exec's and the world government might had a problem with putting out too much info too soon on the population. Catch my drift!

I admit I enjoy some of the reality shows: Amazing Race and Biggest Loser but I absolutely loved Surface. I couldn't believe it when they cancelled it. Too many people like CSI and Law and Order and their myriad clones. I don't get it. What's up with the morbid fascination with blood and gore and disected cadavers?

LISTEN UP, BRING BACK THAT SURFACE SHOW. We are not goingto give up until it is finished.

PETITION TO GET IT BACK
(not sure if this was mentioned above, didnt read it all. just posting this at all the blogs or whatever discussing it)
does anyone know someone at NBC to help get this show bacK???????
February 12th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Now would be the perfect time to bring this back. People have had a break from "their shows" due to the writers strike and Surface could get a good audience if they would do the second season. I am still p*ssed about this and it has been a few years now! We should get that petition past 1,000,000. It is only at a little under 60K now. We have to show them that there is an audience for it.

People, check out: http://www.richlabonte.net/tvvote/index.html

Hi there,
I am from South Africa, where Surface isn't even showing, but thank God I got it from a friend of mine, but only till episode 14. What the heck were the producers/writers thinking by only giving us 14 episodes and only 1 season?
This is a gripping show and should definately be brought back to life! I just voted now.
One thing though, can anyone please tell me where i can watch or download episode 15 please????

This has by far been the best mini-series on televsion, that I have seen in many years. This series ended so quickly and abrupt, that it left me wanting more. There are quite a few programs out there that could be done away with, but this is not one of them. If there is that remote chance to bring this series as well as inavasion back, this would make a lot of people happy. I know that a lot of individauls really liked this program AND IT SHOULD BE PLACED BACK ON AIR!!! Surface had such a great story line, that I could not wait for the following week to see what happened next. Whoever the writers and the creators of SURFACE are, have a lot of talent and are very creative. We need to see the outcome and end result of what Surface has to offer its viewers. And we need to see more programs such as Surface, on the air.

I just finished watching episode 3 of Surface on the Space channel and while I enjoyed it very much it also PMO. I often reflect on how NBC so very often drops the ball and there must be a constant turn over of management because of their poor decision making skills. I hope and pray that at some point NBC will find some good quality decision makers, return Surface to tv, and ask viewers to forgive them for their mistakes. For now I avoid NBC and any product advertised on that channel.
The other option is to say the hell with NBC and make a movie, as has happened with Stargate.

two years after being pissed off that they cancelled the very brilliant invasion i have just got around to watching surface,
and the thought that occurs is - aaaaarrrrrrgggghhh not again! -
why do they have to cancel all the best shows.
i'll just put it in the basket with threshold and angel and crusade and american gothic and carnival and firefly and deadwood and many others.
whether you like these shows or not they all have a couple of things in common.
they all appeal to a similar demographic - all appeal to people with imagination, not reality tv, game show fans.
but secondly and mostly none were allowed to be finished.
we realise they cant go on forever, and most shouldnt.
i hate when a much loved series jumps the shark.
but we would be infinitely much happier if we could have an ending to our stories.
i say to all tv execs - how would you like it if someone snatched away your favourite novel just before you reached the ending never to return it to you.
never to find out what happens to larkin or what the next generation is like on invasion, is intolerable.
espeially when heaped on all the other cancellations.
you would sell far more dvds if you made an end to your stories i will never pay out for brand new dvds blu rays or anything else on a cancelled series,
but give me an ending then i will buy them on every new format that comes out - sooner or later.
thats residual income you will never see.
now multiply that over time by present fans and any that get generated in the future.
for the sake of investing in a film or a miniseries to finish it,which by the way would bring in even more coffers.
maybe not the major amounts that a stargate film would bring in,but over time would well be worth it.
studios spend money on films without a present fanbase all the time - im not talking about big box office films - but made for tv/dvd films.
the money for an end of story arc film, stand to make more than one of these.
if you are haveing trouble with viewing figures its at least in part your own fault, factor in online figures which at present your still not doing properly in spite of the writers strike.
but if you keep abusing your viewers in this way how can they be expected to keep commiting to new things.
and to the American studios i say,the way you utterly ignore the fans from around the world and the sales and money generated by them is insulting at best.
our opinions appear to worth less than nothing to you.
in the long term the internet and technology in general is going to change the face of entertainment and who makes it.
don't expect us to have an loyalty to you,as you have none at all for us.
much of the clout and resources will be taken out of the hands of the large televsion companies - on both sides of the atlantic ,yes BBC that means you too,i havent forgiven you for strange ,red dwarf or afterlife amongst others.
eventually companies from all over the world will be able to compete without the need for large budgets or studios or eventually even actors .
one day, not to far away ,individuals will be able to do it on there home pcs,i promise you it will happen.
then hold on to your hats

I am very angry that surface was cancelled and I am turning crazy because it was thwe very best show and it ended very badly on top of a church and that is a load, and expect NBC to make a another season this year!

I've been watching Surface via Netflix. I'm only up to Episode 7, but I've got to say, I can't understand the rabid loyalty I'm encountering online. The acting is so-so, the dialogue as well, but the science is horrifically juvenile. I like Sci Fi with a proper balance of Sci and Fi. The sloppy slap-dash approach to science in Surface is kind of embarrassing. Scientists say things like "I was on the wrong bandwidth." Or assume that because something which they have not examined appears to be a vertebrate that it must therefore be a new MAMMAL. Very little makes sense. For instance, in Episode 6, Miles sneaks out of the house with Nim in a kitty carrier. His mom has said clearly (Episode 3, I believe) that her children are not allowed to have pets. Why does he have a kitty carrier? It's sloppy and childish. Fun, yes, but not well-written by any normal measure.

Date:June 21, 2009 - Age:50 and Female
Mother of 5 and grandmother of 13, and a die hard fan of shows such as Surface.
NBC had a winner that needed just a bit of tweaking on plot with some great characters introduced , and left some open story twists never settled.
Watched the series complete last night and went looking for season 2. Found out to my disgust there was no season 2. It was a mistake dropping it rather than making improvements.
I watch TV for entertainment, not a nit picking biology lesson. But noses do tend to say mammal and a 14 yr old boy with $300 hidden in a pair of rollerblades just might be able to afford a $49.95 pet carrier from Wally World in reference to the poster above.
It was a great premise and at the core, a new one, even if they tried borrowing some scenes/situations from other shows. The main thing to notice is the dates of the requests for a season 2? Take a look guys, THREE YEARS WORTH of requests!! And here I am, a new fan, just found it, and loved it!
Try this one on for size?
Re-make it, with new actors, definitely new and better writers, new and improved FX, keep the characters as set in the 2005 version and either give us Surface back as a weekly show, hint, like maybe close to Heroes which I also watch every single week, or finish the story for the fans who have waited and built up over the last 3 years.
Hey NBC, you guys really let us down with letting Surface die without putting everyone out of their misery.
I'm sure I have alot of backing when I say there are more Surface fans now than then, and we remember. Try again? We'll be waiting.
