Flickr, Target Photo Printing and My Photos From Savannah and South Carolina

If you use Flickr, you've probably heard the announcement that they added printing for US users (they are working on the rest of the world). The cool thing to me is that the prints themselves are fulfilled by Target stores and can be ready in an hour. That means that I can hit Flickr, pick some photos and grab them at lunch at the downtown Target. Pretty cool overall. I uploaded a few full resolution (from the pocket digital camera) shots from my vacation to Savannah earlier this year. All of them are under the CC Attribution license, which means as long as you credit the photo with my name, you can do whatever you please with them, including print them. I'll be hopefully be picking up a range of print sizes to test it out today.

Yikes, It Starts Tuesday

Well, it is coming up fast. Which makes it a good thing that I'm actually itching to get writing. Of course that may all completely disappear by noon on Tuesday after I've written a couple of pages, but for now, I've got the nervous butterflies of excitement in my gut.

OK. I'm not even going to try to disguise this rant as anything but. For the umpteenth time, I go to some site that requires membership. I've got accounts on literally THOUSANDS of such sites over the years. And, there are a few things that universally piss me off when they happen. And, if you run a web service, a web site, a forum or a blog, there's a pretty good chance your implementation (and many of mine unfortunately) are in my sights.

Getting Attention for Your Resume: "Hire!" Post-It Note Graphic

I was having a conversation with someone tonight and talk turned to how to make a resume stand out. As I'd read somewhere about the idea of a "fake" post-it note as an attention grabber, I whipped an example mockup up to explain the point. My overzealous neurosis is your gain and I'm sharing how I did it. It took me about 15 minutes and I do think that it could be a way to make your resume stand out without going all the way to the brightly colored paper, etc. This is a quick shot of the example itself.

It really doesn't take long to whip something like this up, just a few online resources and tools.

Google, Meta Keywords, Meta Descriptions, and Search Engine Optimization

I was going through my "commented" list early this morning. I noticed that there had been some questions asked about a comment of mine over at ProBlogger on Darren's posting about secondary keywords and Google. They included a suggestion that I write up a bit more. So, below is the initial comment I posted. It's in response to another comment asking about "keywords" and whether, since the meta keywords long ago were polluted out of usefulness, they matter.

J Wynia

For better or worse, I'm the guy who runs things here. I'm a web consultant, software developer, writer and geek from Minneapolis, MN. This site is a fairly wide cross-section of the things I'm interested in and enjoy writing about.

Oh, and if you happen to be looking for hosting for your Subversion repositories or just web hosting in general, take a look at Dreamhost. It's what I use for Subversion and your signup helps me out.
