Plugging the Firefox Memory Leaks

This link came across my desktop today and so far deals with a problem I've had with Firefox for a while. I tend to leave it running all the time with 5-10 tabs open. It often has over 500MB of memory allocated. That's freaking INSANE. Give this setting a try and see if it takes care of the problem for you. Only time will tell, but it's worth a shot and he claims to have had success.

Or…you could use Opera (http://exold.com/article/why-opera). *grins* It occasionally gets up to a large virtual memory footprint, but A) it gives it back to the OS when the OS needs more memory, and B) it's using that memory to cache page history, so back-and-forthing is blazing fast.

Actually, at the end of yesterday, I picked up one of the free Opera keys they were giving away. I would have posted about it, but found out when there was only a little bit of time remaining. I've used it in the past (over a year ago), but have no problem with multiple browsers.

I tend to use Firefox more for its extensibility than for its speed (which doesn't really exist).
