My house listing

My house is now showing in the sites powered by the MLS. The virtual tour photographer is coming today and should give us what we need to enhance the listing information with nice 360 degree photos. The listing.

Intranet/Groupware

Over the years, I've played with several of the PHP-based groupware tools
and gave up on just as many within days. There's always something missing
that just gets in the way of using them as a user. However, when it was
time to build the Myriad Intellect intranet, I ran across a new one:
Group-Office. I have to say, I'm impressed. It's got a few bugs, but I'm
actually willing to work around them given the functionality it does
provide. Most objects can be shared or private and includes bookmarks,
addressbook(with attached notes, etc), calendar, email, task management,
project tracking with time reporting and a file manager for central files.
In short, a pretty good setup for Myriad and I think a pretty good Outlook
replacement (though still missing the "find a meeting time" functionality
that Outlook has) for most organizations.

Photoshop and PHP

I got an email this week from someone who pointed me to a nice link with clear, concise documentation of the Photoshop COM object. As I'm a photographer in addition to being a geek, the prospect of image processing using Photoshop and PHP is more than a little tantalizing. I'm really looking forward to having a little bit of time to start playing with it.

I've always found Photoshop's actions a little constraining and frustrating (must just be me given the really cool actions that are available). I've frequently just wanted to specify exactly what I want to happen. For instance, acting differently if the image size is drastically different from previous instances. At any rate, the documentation is available here: http://phrogz.net/ObjJob/objects.asp?langID=9. As I get PHP examples working, I'll post them either here or at PHPGeek.com.

Business Dress Code

The current contract I'm working full-time has recently decided that
business casual dress doesn't cut it anymore and is going to full business
dress in September for anyone working at their headquarters. While I
understand the desire to have a professional looking workforce (lots of
people wear jeans despite the current dress code), mandating a jacket and
tie for people who sit in their cubes all day banging out code aren't
exactly in "customer-facing" roles is showing that the job market is softer than
I thought. The current status of business casual started when the demand
for employees went up in the 90's and was offered as an incentive. Now
that the incentive is no longer necessary to attract employees, they're
getting rid of it and going back. I wonder how many other places are
making this migration as well? Maybe it's time to buy stock in Men's
Wearhouse?

Photoshop COM Object

I'm looking for any sort of reference documentation for the Photoshop COM
object interface. I've got a chapter marked in my "PHP for Windows" book
outline and know that it will be a piece of cake when I can get a nice
listing of properties and methods for the Photoshop.Application object.
I've done some browsing of the objects and a couple of *very* basic
attempts at scripting them and, on the surface, it appears to work from
PHP, but I want to actually do something useful and need better
documentation to do so. Anyone know of a decent list like that, let me know.

For better or worse, I'm the guy who runs things here. I'm a web consultant, software developer, writer and geek from Minneapolis, MN. This site is a fairly wide cross-section of the things I'm interested in and enjoy writing about.

Oh, and if you happen to be looking for hosting for your Subversion repositories or just web hosting in general, take a look at Dreamhost. It's what I use for Subversion and your signup helps me out.
